Tauren Symbology! Here are a few that Ceares carved on Windchanter's staff. The two named tauren are ancestors of his who he feels greatly influence his life and guide him. His mother and father are on there because he never knew them to honor them, so he wants to do so through his actions now. Also, as a resto druid he doesn't venerate a specific bear or lion spirit, as he doesn't require the blessing of one. Rather, being a more 'general' druid he summons up the forms of bear or whatever through nature. The energy and form of bear exists in nature's database and Hrukh downloads it temporarily. If he used it more often, he would have to talk to a specific spirit as to not overwork nature. Druid are hackers. and yes, the Earth Mother is a pregnant woman. HARR HARR make fun of my religion. What do you guys think about runes and how they work in WoW? What about tauren ancestor worship and all that?

In other news, I'm not sure whether to put this on the "Patron Spirits" thread that just popped up or here. So I'll put it here.
Rhessi's a Blackhorn, and I've actually been RPing and developing the Blackhorn for a while now. That tribe focused on worship of the Earthmother in her many aspects through personal totem spirits. When s/he came of age, a young tauren would take their vision quest, and return having spoken to (and received the blessing of) a particular spirit animal. They would then spend time in consultation with the elders to interpret the spirit's message, which to the tauren it was given to was often cryptic. (A side note, this is likely because the visions themselves were often brought on by delusion from lack of food. The vision quest was also a fasting quest). Thereafter, that totem spirit would be thought to confer its special protection and wisdom to the individual.
What this would mean in practical terms is that you would be forbidden to deal a killing blow to an animal that represented your totem species, although you could participate in a hunt up to that point, and also eat of its flesh (receive its gift, if you will). One day out of the year was given to honoring this particular spirit, and you would be expected to spend it in secluded meditation. And depending on your place in the tribe (loosely translated as your class: warrior, shaman, druid, etc.), you would be thought to derive some of your power directly from the intervention of your totem spirit.
I play Rhessi this way, and I'd be happy to bring any of this into RP, if folks desire.
Peace, Diana

That would be totally awesome to see that reflected in RP, Diana! The Banepaw have never been heavy on personal totems before, probably because they have so many tribal patrons, but maybe Rhessi could introduce the concept.
Though, they have always highly respected their ancestors through carvings, alters and the like. It's something I'd like to see and do more often. I've been working on a family tree for Hrukh for a long time, but it's not quite finished.
