The art of roleplaying is most certainly an art. Just as much as writing, painting or simply telling a story requires practice, skill and introspection, roleplaying is not something that you simply 'become good at'; it takes time and (more importantly) effort. I'm not talking about having perfect emotes or grammar. As you can see, my grammar is pretty lacking. What I mean when I talk about a good roleplayer is how believable their character is, how well they interact with the environment and other characters, how interesting they are, etc.
So, what can YOU do to improve your roleplay? Give this some serious thought, folks. Roleplaying can be a simple pass-time, or it can be a pass-time with meaning and purpose.
I'll start.
I've noticed that a lot of times I have trouble being consistent with Windchanter's way of speaking. At time he will speak as such, in a manner that reads slowly and simply, yet quite clear. This is how I prefer to play him as. But sometimes I find him talking like this, using more common words and less interesting speech flow. I try to avoid making my sentences so inchoate. It varies depending on my mood and I feel like it makes it hard to separate the character from the player.
I want a character who is NOT the same person that I am. Yes Windchanter and I have similar traits and (arguable) mindsets, but I don't want him to sound like me or act like me all the time.
There are plenty of other things I could work on too. I'll probably post them up as I think of them.
