((In progress))
Part 1: The Basics
1. What is your full name?
Hrukh Windchanter Banepaw
2. Where and when were you born?
The barrens, fifty-six summers past. My birth coincides with the defeat and ruin of the first Banepaw Tribe. My mother carried me with her days after escaping the wrath of the Kolkar. She introduced me to dust and air moments before her death.
3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
I know nothing of my father. My mother was met by a wanderer named Atwu Breezemane, who tended to her for the day and into the night as I was born. Atwu raised me for eleven years until leaving me with the Wheathoof, where Wihe took care of me until adulthood.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
The only sibling I know of is Wolfsister Telomwe. She is the daughter of Wihe who raised me. Telomwe is a great hunter and steadfast friend, as she has been my entire life.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
Now I roam with the Banepaw Fellowship. We go from place to place, where ever we are needed. Now that the centaur are pushed back to their holes and caves the nomadic life is not necessary. However, we choose it so that we may help the land where it needs us.
So far the Fellowship is small and diverse. We are all devoted to the Earthmother, however.
6. What is your occupation?
I do not know that I would call it an occupation, as I rarely sell or trade anything I make, but I distill alcohol into drinks. I learned this skill from the Wheathoof Tribe. I only know how to make wine and mead, but I am told it is very good.
More importantly, I am a healer. The world is abundant with life and energy; I borrow from this life to put into the sick and wounded when I must. However, if the wound or sickness is not dire, I will use more common methods to save the life of the Earthmother. I dabble in potions and know a great deal about herbs and their uses.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
I could stand to lose a few pounds. My lifestyle isn't very active, and I love to eat. I pray you don't think I mean that I gorge myself, even in this modern day we do not have the resources for that. But I enjoy a good meal to its fullest. However, my legs are very muscular, and my arms strong enough.
I've been called 'stout'. My shoulders are broader than most tauren yet I am somewhat shorter, about an inch below most males.
I've never been called attractive... I think it may be the tight skin rolls on my snout, or my heavy brow that makes me look like an orc with fur and horns. Ah, speaking of horns, that is my most impressive feature. I have been told my horns are a sign of my inner strength. They are large and curve upwards to find points.
Umm... I only have two sets of clothing. They're both made from very simple cloth and somewhat tattered.
8. To which social class do you belong?
Social class? What does that mean? I'm a tauren and a healer, if that is what you ask.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
Have you heard the term 'strong as a bull'? My people are naturally built to manage the wilds. It is a blessing of the Earthmother.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
I cannot write very well but when I do I use my right hand, as I do with most things.
11. What does your voice sound like?
That is hard for me to say, as it is my own. Others have told me it sounds like a wind: light and breathy. Ceares told me the other day that I'm a good singer, too.
12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
I say 'wonderful' when I am happy... I do not know what other words or phrases I use... I'm not normally attentive of my own speech.
13. What do you have in your pockets?
Let's see here... my satchel is worn and in need of a leatherworker's touch. It is beaded on the front in a lovely pattern made by an old friend in Moonglade. Within it is usually some food, water, perhaps a flask of juice or my wine, my pipe, my tobacco box, my matches, my hearthstone and my cloth herbal bag.
This bag has many containers within it, which I keep fairly organized. There are spices (thyme and bruiseweed) which Telomwe taught me to use on meat. I also have salve made of peacebloom and silverleaf. It is a light gray colored substance. There are various vials with contents such as sap, anesthetic, fertile soil, purified water, etc. Finally, there are - of course - herbs of all sorts, crushed or tied up carefully and placed in various side-pockets.
14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Well, I am normally very calm and at peace with myself and my surroundings. However, I find myself quick to become excited when Banepaw lore or ideas are brought up. I have a difficult time slowing myself down and find that I speak everything that comes from my mind.
I'm also told I get too excited about eating. I say everyone else isn't excited enough!
Part 2: Growing Up
15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
Many asked me if I was ever lonely, with but one friend. I never truly was. Even as a calf and pre-adult I felt the whispers of the Earthmother and felt at home in the wilds away from Wheathoof Bluff. The birds, squirrels, insects and trees were enough to keep me company when Telomwe was doing chores or wandering the wilds alone.
16. What is your earliest memory?
My earliest memory is one of Atwu Breezemane, the cow who found my mother before giving birth to me. We were walking in the savanna, and very hungry. I do not remember how, but she managed to kill a plainstrider. We ate together in silence when I asked the quiet one, "Are there others like us?"
She did not reply for some time, but I remember she looked sad when she did. "Yes. You will live with them someday."
17. How much schooling have you had?
Chores around the bluff and listening to the stories of the elders was my schooling in youth. My most important education was given to me in Moonglade by the druids. The Kal'dorei are patient, slow teachers. Often, they are slower than their students need them to be. It was there I learned the lost ways of the Earthmother.
18. Did you enjoy school?
It was the first time I made friends and I learned everything I wanted to know about the world. Yes, I lived for it.
19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
Moonglade, in the lessons before the Emerald Dream journey I took, which lasted several years.
20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
Telomwe was something of a mother to me; as much as Wihe was. I respected them both greatly. Wihe told me stories of Banepaw, the legendary progenitor. I wanted to be a great spirit-talker, hunter, and leader like him. Haah, of course now I am happy to be a simple healer.
21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
As I've said, Telomwe was my only friend. We never disagreed or argued. Wihe was always kind to me, as was her mate before his death.
22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Banepaw, like I said.
23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
Singing and exploring with Telomwe when we could get away. My favorite chore was harvesting the wheat when the wet season ended. I felt some kind of connection to those golden steps.
24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
I almost never spoke. Occasionally, grumpy elders called me disrespectful because I would rather nod or shake my head than address them with words. My eyes around other tauren were almost always upon the ground. It wasn't until I arrived in Moonglade, surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of tauren migrating from the barrens to learn the druidic ways that I opened my heart to the world.
25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
No, the other calves thought me strange and aloof... I suppose I was.
26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
I have never 'kissed', licked, or romantically nuzzled anyone... Well, I do have a Kal'dorei friend in Moonglade who would kiss me on the nose sometimes. But I don't think she loved me. Haahah.
27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
I am not mated, no. I do not see myself mating anytime soon, either. What's that they say? Love is patient?
28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
Any tauren can become a druid. Our connection to the Earthmother is deeper than many know. We can activate the dormant life in vines, communicate with the spirits of animals, explore the very source of all the world's natural energy (the Emerald Dream) and even commune with Ysera's brood if we seek them out. No orc or troll can do all these things.
When the Kal'dorei joined us in battle against the demon Kil'jaeden I was a season away from adulthood. The Wheathoof Tribe had recently aided the Horde in locating a nest of wyvren to help them fight off the invading humans. I saw the greenskin army for the first time from a distant mountain, among other Wheathoof tauren. They were horrible and fascinating at the same time.
I am unsure of the details but a human came to the Horde and begged for their aid against the demon. Cairne Bloodhoof came to the Wheathoof asking if any warriors would join the fight. Many did, even though we did not understand this threat. If the world was in danger, it was our duty to protect it.
After the battle on Mount Hyjal the night elves who fought alongside the tauren agreed to teach them their magic which so impressed the tauren. They controlled and communed with nature in a way similar to the shaman, but wonderful in its own way. When the warriors returned telling tales of trees uprooting themselves to kill monstrous demons and thorns growing on the skin of the druids I knew my calling had sounded, and joined the first caravan to Moonglade when I came of age.
Part 3: Past Influences
29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
The joining of the Banepaw. When Elder Karonak and Sianhu found Telomwe and I in Mulgore I knew a bright future was ahead. We sat up all night discussing the Tribe and how we would reform it. I will never forget sitting atop Thunder Bluff, overlooking the holy land for the first time as the ancient shaman and serene druid told their tales of how the Earthmother had guided them to us.
30. Who has had the most influence on you?
I once would have suggested one of my teachers in Moonglade, but now I dare say Elder Karonak has the most influence on my life. He may be old and somewhat unstable, but his wisdom is not entirely in his mind. It is the spirit of this great warrior I most admire.
31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Without a doubt my greatest achievement would be a speech I gave in Thunder Bluff to convince people there to join us as we ventured to the raptor grounds to meet Telhak. Many came with us and joined us that day.
32. What is your greatest regret?
My greatest regret is that I have not seen Atwu Breezemane since she left Wheathoof Village after dropping me off. I miss her still.
33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
Evil? Well, I don't know if I have ever done anything truly evil... I have sneaked away from chores, lied to elders, stolen fruit and run off into the wilds for days at a time. But this was all in my youth. I do not claim to be a paragon of all that is good, I simply have not had the chance and motivation to do anything truly dark before.
34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
Certainly not. I think there are two or three elders of the Wheathoof who would disagree were they still alive, however. Haaha.
35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
I was most frightened either when I first met Telhak the Endless, the great alpha Banepaw raptor or when I went through Felwood with my tribe's caravan to Moonglade. The night elves led us mostly on mountain paths away from it, but there was a full day when the path dipped low into the corrupted forest. We saw many horrible things and lost three of our number.
36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
One time, while at a class in Moonglade the elder night elf instructing us told us to close our eyes and try to hear the whispers in the breeze as it trickled through the trees like a stream of air. As everyone was silently listening for the soft breeze, I farted loudly. The elder pretended not to notice but everyone burst into laughter. Ugh.
37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
I do not know if I have an answer... I certainly would love to meet my birth parents and the tribe I came from, but I think things happen for a reason. I would not change anything.
38. What is your best memory?
There are so many. One that stands out recently is Ashwind's ritual to bind the Vale spirits to the Banepaw Tribe. I am proud to carry their name.
39. What is your worst memory?
My worst memory may be leaving Telomwe behind in Stonetalon before going to Moonglade. I did not know when I would return and she was so sad to see her mother and I go. I still remember the tears in her eyes...
Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions
40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
I think myself to be very realistic. I am hopeful about my life and the future of this world, but I realize the reality of its harshness. Living the semi-nomadic life in my youth, always following the kodo and avoiding the centaur, I am not blind to hardship or strife.
41. What is your greatest fear?
Hm... it is not something I think about often. I fear for the Earthmother in these times, certainly. With the waning of her strength and the constant quakes I worry that she may be in dire need of our help, yet we know not what to do to help her.
42. What are your religious views?
I am a druid and a Shu'halo. The world itself is my religion. The Earthmother is my goddess and I serve her above all else.
43. What are your political views?
Politics are for older minds. Personally, I don't not see the value in such large, organized communities like Thunder Bluff and the nation the Horde is becoming.
44. What are your views on sex?
Sex is a gift of the Earthmother. It brings us new life and gives us purpose and drive. What other view could there possibly be?
45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?
I must eat. You ask of killing mortals though, yes? I have rarely the need to kill another mortal, but only because I am not a fighter. Centaur, quilboar, humans, anyone with a black heart who cannot be changed must die in order to maintain peace and protect the innocent.
46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?
The most evil? Above all else I think killing innocents for food or supplies is the darkest deed a mortal can commit. Many quilboar and centaur have done this. It is unacceptable in the eyes of the Earthmother, who values all life as sacred.
47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?
I am not prone to believe in fate in all but the most important situations. The Earthmother is a world and a life force, not a personal goddess sticking her holy fingers in our daily business to influence it. So no, I do not believe in soul mates. I do not believe in absolute love either, for one's heart cannot be wrapped entirely around one person or thing. However, I believe that love between tribe, family, mate and children is a very powerful force.
48. What do you believe makes a successful life?
If the world is a better place because of one's actions, then one's life is successful.
49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?
I am very open with my tribe. I do not feel the need to flaunt my opinions or every thought, however.
50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Not that I know of... I am wary to accept non-tauren, simply because I know the horrible things most races have done or continue to do. That is logic more than prejudice, I think.
51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?
Uuhhh... I do not know. This question is too broad.
52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?
I would gladly die for the Earthmother, my tribe, my Fellowship or my people.
Part 5: Relationships With Others
53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
I am not rude to anyone who does not first disrespect me. I am quiet around outsiders, even other tauren at first. It is not that I am shy, I merely wish to observe and learn for a time. I never waste anyone's time with any speech that is not important.
When I grow closer to someone I often ensure they are well fed and of good health before anything else. Even in this modern age, a traveler is in danger at all times. Once they are taken care of, I enjoy simply sitting and talking, or sharing stories.
54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Do not ask me such questions. My tribe is the most important, not one above any other.
55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
I feel as if I've already answered this question. Elder Karonak.
56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
Again, I consider my whole tribe my friends. We are all tauren and respectful of the Earthmother and her ways.
57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
I am not mated.
58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
In a romantic way? No, never.
59. What do you look for in a potential lover?
I am not seeking a mate. I realize this is strange for a bull my age, but I cannot support a family and help lead a new tribe at the same time. I believe I will know love when I see it.
60. How close are you to your family?
Incredibly. We live and travel together. I feel we share everything.
61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
I will someday. The Banepaw line must go on if the tribe is to be restored.
62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
My tribe.
63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
I am not a fighter. My tribe protects me. Telomwe, Ceares, Sheowachi, Sianhu, even Elder Karonak when the elements move through him. Though, I can protect myself well enough when taking the form of a lion or bear.
64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
I certainly hope I would be missed and remembered by my tribe. I think I have several friends in Moonglade as well who would miss me after a time.
65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
I don't think I despise anyone...
66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I avoid conflict, but stand firm in my convictions if they are truly challenged.
67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
I never did until we started reforming the Banepaw Fellowship. Elder Karonak is somewhat anti-social so I often serve as his mouthpiece and ambassador. When he is not around, the Fellowship looks to me for guidance. I must say I'm not entirely comfortable with it.
68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
Oh, yes! I love parties and camping with large groups. Stories, smoking, eating, laughing, dancing, it is all very warming. I would love a good party some time soon.
69. Do you care what others think of you?
Well, yes. I am a representative to my tribe, my race and the Centurion Circle. My actions reflect on the character of a great many teachers, elders and peers of mine.
Part 6: Likes And Dislikes
70. What is/are your favorite hobbies and pastimes?
Distilling wine and mead are very calming and involved. I have a deep love for the entire process of making these drinks. I also deeply enjoy smoking my pipe and the clarity and spiritual oneness it brings... but I don't know if one could call that a hobby. I also enjoy singing, chanting, telling stories, hunting, walking, running, eating, feeding others, working with herbs and praying.
71. What is your most treasured possession?
That would either be the golden eagle feather given to me by the Vale totem eagle or my staff, a gift from a very kind teacher of mine in Moonglade. Ah, or perhaps my raptor horn, the symbol of the Banepaw tribe and sacred channel of the winds.
72. What is your favorite color?
Uhh... green? I have not put any thought into that before.
73. What is your favorite food?
Hmmm... a good grape is always nice, or an apple. Though meat is even more satisfying after a long journey. Or during one. Or before a journey. I love kodo meat, but it is rather tough. Spider meat has a wonderful, crunchy texture. Plainstrider is nice and tough. Hmm... you know, I am very fond of plainstrider eggs! My, my, I do not think I can choose.
74. What, if anything, do you like to read?
I never read until being taught how in Moonglade. The Kal'dorei have many interesting books of history and philosophy. I did not read much, but when I did it was usually a book of some events from their perspective.
75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?
Stories, song, dancing and good companions to share them with.
76. Do you smoke, drink, or use drugs? If so, why? Do you want to quit?
I smoke, of course. Quit? Why would I ever quit?
77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?
Uuhhh... I do not understand, why is Saturday significant? The same as any other night, I should think. Is this a riddle? I am horrible with riddles.
78. What makes you laugh?
Oh, a great many things! People think the tauren to be humorless because we are so reserved outside of our families but it is untrue. When completely comfortable, I laugh at most jokes. Even my own.
79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you?
I am shocked by the way people are treating our world. Even if they do not believe in the Earthmother they must realize that nature will not sit still as they plunder her depths and pillage her trees. I have heard of orcs cutting down trees in Ashenvale in vast numbers. They say they use all the lumber they harvest, but I do not think it is all necessary. If I ever have the chance, I will go see this 'harvest' for myself and speak to the orc in charge.
80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself?
I am a simple bull, with simple pleasures. I would walk, smoke my pipe, and perhaps talk with some of the animals around.
81. How do you deal with stress?
I had not known stress in my life until recently in any notable capacity. I found I best dealt with it by calmly explaining my situation to a friend.
82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?
If an important task is before me I will plan as much is necessary. However, I am capable of being spontaneous.
83. What are your pet peeves?
Hmnn... Not many things upset me. Though when anyone interrupts another person while speaking I grow agitated. I also find warlocks with their demons walking around to be entirely intolerable. That is more than a 'pet peeve' however.
Part 7: Self Images And Etc.
84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
I don't quite have a routine. Well, I suppose that is not entirely true... I find water first thing. Secondly I will eat or enjoy a short walk. After that it depends on what happens to me.
85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
I feel my openness to the voices of the world strengthens me. I am able to learn and listen quite well.
86. What is your greatest weakness?
Physically, I am not very strong. I can fight if I must, but in these times my combat abilities are considered limited.
87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Errm... I have not thought about that much. I wish I were more outgoing. I am growing more sociable, though.
88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
Introverted, most certainly.
89. Are you generally organized or messy?
I try to stay organized. I have many herbs and empty bottles in my herbal bag, which are difficult to organize though.
90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
I am very good at discovering uses for various herbs. I am able to communicate well with the land. My mead is quite good, too.
On the other hand, I am horrible at reading peoples' emotions. I cannot tell most non-tauren apart very well. Finally, I am incredibly slow to learn.
91. Do you like yourself?
Certainly. I was created as I am by the Earth Mother. To dislike myself would be to not approve of her great work.
92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons...)
I have explained why I am Banepaw and a druid. I am a healer because it came naturally to me. I have no ulterior motives.
93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
My goals are more short term or not entirely achievable, if you know my meaning. I wish to spread understanding of tauren culture. I hope I do that each day, but I can never remind every Shu'halo of our purpose and drive them to hear the whispers of the wind.
94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I cannot say... especially in these times. I do not have such foresight.
95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
I would rather die peacefully in a field or under the shade of a great tree.
96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
A day is not quite long enough for me to achieve anything I would care much about. Of course, I would ensure my family was aware and that they prepare me for my journey into the soil and sky.
97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
I would hope the words of the Earth Mother might be heard and remembered by some due to my work after my death.
98. What three words best describe your personality?
I have been called slow... I do not know if that is an insult. I don't think so, myself. Sympathetic and contemplative also work.
99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?
Ah, well then. Slow, as I said. Perhaps serious or even 'unaware'. I think some people (mostly non-tauren) see me as empty or gruff.
100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice...)
Hrukh, the only advice I can give you that you will understand is this: take to your role, be a leader, don't be shy or worry what everyone is thinking about you. You're stronger than you realize.
