Hey there everyone! I like to think that I have been around the block a few times when it comes to role playing in World of Warcraft, and I try and go as far into the Lore as I possibly can when trying to Role play a class. That being said, one of (in my opinion) the hardest classes to Role play properly is, you guessed it, the Shaman.
Now, I will not go far in depth in my own description, because the link I am going to post says it all for me, but I do want to kind of say why they are so difficult. It is easy to research and to apply your own personal and cultural rituals, as well as look at what we have in game that shows us what to do (for example, Tuskarr and incense, Tauren and totems, Orcs and wolves) and that can be a unique and fun way to make your character special and fun. But one thing that needs to be understood, and I am going to throw in a direct quote here...
"A shaman does not cast spells in the same way that most other magic users do. The power of the elements is not like modern human electricity which they can plug into and then channel through their body or their mind. Rather, shamans call upon the spirits when they seek to use this power, asking permission to use it and channel it through themselves. The totems a shaman creates represent this relationship, and serve as a focal point of their communion with the spirits. So in a sense, each shaman must humbly remember that his power is not his own, he borrows it from the spirits of the world, and uses it at their good pleasure. Each type of spirit represents a force of nature at work in the world, all existing in balance with one another."
There you have it. So keep that in mind when you are playing your character.
For those who are interested, and I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wants to know about this class, I found this article while perusing the web today.

See you in game!

P.S. Discussion rocks. I am going to stick this, but keep it open. I also encourage the other good classes of the Tauren (wink wink druids wink wink) to start up their own! (win wink Hrukh wink wink).
